About me

Black and white pencil drawing of butterflies, leaves, flowers, and a bee on a plant.

I am a contemporary botanical watercolour artist working from direct observation and my sketchbook stories of seasonal flora and fauna. My work focuses on structure, texture, and the subtle rhythms of colour throughout the year. My background in architecture, design and art education informs the way I approach composition and balance, ensuring that each piece is carefully considered.

I focus on flowers and nature because, while they can hold vivid memories and deep meaning, they are ultimately ephemeral and do not last. Their short-lived beauty can be turned into lasting memories in watercolour.

I’ve overcome many challenges and as a result I was asked to create a watercolour for Macmillan Cancer’s HOPE (How to Overcome Challenges Effectively) mental health programme. I donated a digital version of this painting to The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London. I also sell ‘Hope’ greetings cards at local art fairs ~ all proceeds going to the Macmillan Cancer Charity.

Greetings card and fine art of a watercolour titled "HOPE" with a blue background and three large sunflowers, along with subtitle "How to Overcome Problems Effectively" and additional text about sunflowers symbolizing hope, optimism, and resilience.

I work in watercolour for precision, honesty and its exacting nature. Each painting is built gradually from carefully studied preliminary drawings, allowing form, tone and depth to emerge through layered washes and lightness of touch.

This process requires patience, time and careful attention to detail. There are no shortcuts in this working method.

I am fascinated by how pigment moves through water on paper - the flow and diffusion creates a quiet choreography. The shapes evolve, shifting and merging to form delicate, unexpected patterns that add subtle complexity and depth to the finished paintings.
