Petals Unbound
Three paintings where pigment and petal move freely, released from stillness into something more urgent, more ungoverned. This collection is a deliberate expansion in scale, gesture and intent. These large works, each an explosion of blooms, move beyond careful observation into something almost raw, where colour becomes forceful as well as descriptive, the movement implied.
The organising energy of this series is the vortex ~ the point where centrifugal force and natural form collide, where petals disassociate into pure motion frozen on the wind.
‘Blue Pressure’ sets white peonies against an insistent blue, part of the flowers held at the moment before they surrender to the field around it.
‘Roses Unfurled’ places yellow against red in a relationship of heat and tension, roses caught mid-opening and yet in flight.
‘Turning Toward The Sun’ releases sunflowers entirely, scattering them on an unseen wind ~ the most kinetic and joyful of the three to my mind, a spinning vortex, a celebration.
Together these works mark a pivotal shift in the body of my work: the quiet observation that characterised earlier collections giving way to blooms that move without permission and without restraint. These pieces are my Wild Flowers.
